The national secretary general of the CC-PNC, Fernando Clavijo, has called for “taking advantage of the crisis caused by the pandemic to redirect the Canary Islands towards a resilient economy that is less dependent on the outside world”.

In a statement, the nationalist formation has indicated that during a meeting in the framework of the program 'Canarias nee's you', Clavijo pointed out that «
we have to aspire to a more prosperous and just society that offers good opportunities and integrates all citizens into its economy«.

A formula that "not only attracts investment and generates wealth, but also prepares the archipelago to face future crises with better guarantees and to be able to combat poverty or inequality data more effectively."

Clavijo recognized here the "effort of the business fabric, of the Canarian businessmen and workers who have shown a commitment to undertake and open up new niches."

However, he pointed out "there is still much to be done, since the levels of public and private investment in research and development in the Canary Islands are far from the European threshold" although he insisted that "research and innovation are a priority, it depends on and is our responsibility themselves”.

Meanwhile, the secretary general of CC de Gran Canaria,
Pablo Rodríguez, pointed to R&D as one of the axes of the economic development of the archipelago and a child "capable of generating wealth and quality and better-paid jobs, as well as being a hub capable of attracting and retaining talent."

In this context, he referred to the role played by the two Canarian public universities. "The transfer of knowledge generated within our universities is going to be decisive both for the growth and consolidation model and for the economic and social impact that they leave on society," he asserted.
