Cirque du Soleil disembarks for the first time in the Canary Islands with its emblematic Carpa Blanca, flagship of the company, on July 5, 2019, with its show Totem. The prestigious Canadian company, which had visited the Islands on three occasions with shows adapted to the sports pavilion, lands in the south of Gran Canaria within the framework of an agreement signed with Expomeloneras, with the support of Lopesan, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Town Hall of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, with the vocation of installing the European headquarters of the Circo del Sol on the Island.
The presentation of the project was held on the morning of Tuesday, October 16, at a press conference at the aforementioned convention center in Maspalomas, attended by various authorities of the Canary Islands, the representative of ExpoMeloneras and the Senior Vice-President of the Division. of Tours of Cirque du Soleil, Fynn Taylor.
"For Cirque du Soleil, the Meloneras – Gran Canaria project is something very exciting in what has been going on for many years until we have found the perfect space to locate our Great White Carp, and we are convinced that Totem is the best option to start our journey in the Canary Islands "said Taylor.
The company has opted to carry out this project in the Canary Islands, attracted by the local expectation and by the volume of tourism that travels in summer to this destination, where Totem will become the main tourist-cultural offer of Meloneras, in the south of Gran Canaria. The Great White Tent will be located on the grounds in front of the Palacio de ExpoMeloneras, where the show will premiere on July 5, 2019.
