The show Totem, a hypnotic acrobatic journey that traces the history of human evolution to the rhythm of amphibious pirouettes, dances of ancient civilizations in unicycle and roller skating in the direction of the stars, disembarks in the south of Gran Canaria on July 5, 2019 wrapped in the scenic magic that distinguishes the seal of the Circus of the Sun.
The prestigious Canadian company will install its Great White Tent in the wide esplanade that presides over the Palacio de ExpoMeloneras in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where he will represent his acclaimed Totem for two months, with the possibility of extending his stay with new functions and, above all, with the vocation of incorporating this enclave as a fixed location for his future shows in Europe.
This was confirmed yesterday by Finn Taylor, senior vice president of the touring division of Cirque du Soleil, at a meeting held at the Palacio de ExpoMeloneras conducted by the actress Yanely Hernández, with the appearance of Zoilo Alemán, director of Congresses, Groups and Incentives of ExpoMeloneras; Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo Gran Canaria; and Marco Aurelio Pérez, mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, main bastions of this applauded alliance between the Circo del Sol and the south of Gran Canaria.
After previous performances adapted to different sports halls of the islands, Totem crown the first landing of the Great White Tent of the Cirque du Soleil in the Canary Islands, which is also the starting point of the European tour of Totem in 2019 protected from the consideration of the Island as the company's permanent headquarters on the continent.

This is the twenty-eighth show of the trajectory of Circo del Sol, which at the same time embodies the essence and evolution of the circus company throughout its 34 years for its poetic movement around the body and space. The visual effects, the theatrical pirouettes and the sense of humor envelop a turtle-shaped staging, which symbolizes the most ancient human civilizations and which draws the backdrop of this constellation of dances, rites and ceremonies, which defies the laws of gravity to embody the infinite cycle of life. Under the direction of the famous Canadian director Robert Lepage, the show also integrates a miscellany of images taken by the French-Canadian entrepreneur Guy Laliberté in the framework of his Poetic Social Mission on board the International Space Station.
In total, the representation of Totem in the south of Gran Canaria, it has a cast of 48 artists, actors, musicians and singers from 20 countries, from Mongolia to Australia, with the backing of more than six million spectators behind it since its world premiere in Montreal at the year 2010.
