Chinese car manufacturer Chery will start selling vehicles in the United States from 2021 under the Vantas brand under an agreement announced Monday by HAAH Automotive Holdings, an American company that distributes imported cars.
Under the agreement, HAAH will market vehicles produced with the SUV Exeed de Chery SUV platform under the Vantas brand in the United States and Canada and will be mounted on “US plants that will create new jobs for the United States,” the company said in a statement.
Although HAAH did not indicate what the first Vantas vehicle will be, the company said it will be a SUV SUV of the high range.
“The engineering development for approval in the US market has already begun,” the company said in a statement.
Duke Hale, the president and CEO of HAAH, explained that “this is a historic agreement for the creation of Vantas.”
“The brand will incorporate several new technologies from its Chinese partner, including ‘Intelligent Conencted’ for a variety of safety and driver assistance technologies, various aspects of autonomous driving and, in the future, new fuel vehicles,” Hale explained.
“Vantas is fully committed to producing each of its vehicles in the United States, creating jobs in the United States,” he added.
Vantas vehicles will be sold through the internet and a network of dealers that HAAH will begin to form in the coming weeks.
Ray Bierzynski, executive vice president of Chery, said “technical collaboration with HAAH will provide support for the development of new products that will meet and exceed the expectations of American consumers.”
The Exeed is a SUV SUV equipped with a 1.6-liter diesel engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that generates 197 horsepower. The four-wheel drive is with a BorgWarner system.
Chery, established in 1997, is a Chinese state company that maintains cooperation agreements with Jaguar Land Rover among other companies. At present, it is one of the leading car manufacturers in China and the largest exporter in the country, with sales in 80 countries.
For its part, HAAH is also working on importing vehicles produced by the Chinese manufacturer Zotye to the United States and Central America.
