Cepsa appoints Maarten Wetselaar as new CEO of the company

Cepsa, the global energy company, today announced the appointment of Maarten Wetselaar as the company’s new CEO, a decision that will take effect on January 1, 2022. Wetselaar comes from Royal Dutch Shell, where he has been a member of the Steering Committee at his condition as Director of Integrated Gas, Renewables and Energy Solutions. He is a recognized voice in the global industry and in the field of Energy Transition with more than 25 years of experience in Renewable Energy, Electric Mobility, Downstream, LNG and Upstream.

Ahmed Yahia Al Idrissi, Chairman of Cepsa, states: “We are delighted that Maarten Wetselaar is joining Cepsa. CV Maarten Wetselaar

Maarten Wetselaar is Director of Integrated Gas and New Energies and a member of the Royal Dutch Shell Management Committee. Wetselaar is responsible for Shell’s integrated gas business, which includes its leadership in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and gas-to-liquids (GTL) industry, and also leads the business of renewable energy and new energy solutions, including Shell investments in low carbon electricity, hydrogen, green solutions and new business models for a lower carbon future. He has conducted these businesses for Shell in 38 countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, Qatar, Russia and Trinidad and Tobago.

Maarten Wetselaar holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Groningen and a post-doctorate in Controllers from the VU University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. After serving in the military as an officer in the Royal Navy of the Netherlands, he joined Shell in 1995 and held various financial, commercial and general management positions in Shell’s Upstream, Downstream and Trading businesses in Europe, Brazil , Ghana, the Middle East and Russia.

In 2009, Wetselaar became Executive Vice President of Finance for Upstream International. From 2013 to 2015 he was Executive Vice President of Integrated Gas, based in Singapore.

Maarten Wetselaar is married and the father of three college-age children. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he enjoys traveling and sports, including soccer, sailing, and golf, and he enjoys reading and music.
