Cavagna survives the controversy and wins in Toledo

Remi Cavagna prevailed in the streets of Toledo, a complicated territory he arrived alone after leaving his escape companions. The Frenchman applied in the last kilometers to a solo time trial from which he won. The last section, on the road to the Alcazar, was very demanding, but the sprinters failed to cut the ground.

The squad accelerated from behind, the sprinters were looking for one of their few opportunities in the race. But the stage victory was the least for them. The important thing had happened many kilometers before, when there were 60 left and a large fall brought Primoz Roglic and Miguel Ángel López to the ground.

It was a windy area, between Escalona and Maqueda, in which Movistar had planned to attack. That was explained by its director, José Luis Arrieta, in the Spanish Television microphones. And he also explained that it was the UCI (International Cycling Union), which had "forced" him to stop. Not through a direct order, but by ensuring that he was going to allow those affected to go back "after car" to link with the group in front.

The favorites regrouped, but Valverde got into the group's sprint, it was a very appropriate arrival for him, and, although the bonuses escaped, he managed to cut his main rivals three seconds.
