The Junta de Castilla y León has decided to maintain the curfew that was agreed in the Extraordinary Governing Council last Thursday and not resort to the perimeter closure of the Community. This was announced by the president, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, in an institutional statement at 8:30 p.m. this Sunday.
The decision has been taken in an Extraordinary Government Council that has been held electronically and that has been convened after announcing the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the decree of the state of alarm and the curfew in a range that can oscillate , at the discretion of the autonomous communities, between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am. Despite the fact that the council has lasted several hours, no changes are faced, since Castilla y León will maintain the night mobility restriction in the terms agreed on Friday, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Fernández Mañueco has warned that Castilla y León is “in a situation of extreme risk” and has given figures that demonstrate this: the incidence of cases in the Community is 589 per house 100,000 inhabitants, ICUs are at 70% with half of their patients affected by COVID-19. Several hospitals have already extended them to be able to respond. Since September 1, Fernández Mañueco has said, more than 700 people have died in hospitals and residences and in the last week a thousand daily infections have been registered. Even so, no measure can be implemented beyond the curfew, despite the fact that the president has affirmed that the autonomous government will continue to act “with determination and serenity.
Thus, after the declaration of the state of alarm, Fernández Mañueco has assured that he assumes the functions “with loyalty, serenity and decision” and has recalled that after requesting the state of alarm last Thursday from the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and not ” materialize “, the Junta de Castilla y León came forward” to save lives “and agreed on the curfew. In the Governing Council this Sunday it has been agreed to ratify the measure “without resorting to the perimeter confinement of the Community, maintaining the current capacity of the hotel industry, while other communities close the interior of the bars or completely”. According to the president of Castilla y León, “the closure at 10 pm has paid off in other Communities”, although it has not specified which ones.
As the situation evolves, Fernández Mañueco has warned that he will support the measures that are necessary. “We have strengthened the health system with more ICUs, more trackers, more tests, more respirators and more personnel,” said the president. Finally, the president of Castilla y León has appealed to personal responsibility and compliance with measures such as the use of a mask and the safety distance in order to reduce pressure in health centers and hospitals.
