The Nelson Mandela Auditorium of Casa África will host tomorrow, at 19.30, the celebration of a charity act that is titled, Canary Islands with Mozambique: your help, your medicine. Through it, it is intended to publicize the campaign that has been organized from the Canary Islands, through the Agora Foundation, to help with the reconstruction of the General Hospital of Beira, greatly affected by this phenomenon after the passage of the hurricane Idai for Mozambique.
The truth is Idai It seriously affected the city of Beira, where the Canarian cooperation has in its General Hospital one of its training centers for medical specialists. This is a project led by Dr. Luis López, responsible for international cooperation of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), with the support of Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID), which on several occasions has highlighted the Mozambican project and has set it as an example of effective cooperation with African countries.
As a result of the passage of the cyclone, whose total balance already exceeds a thousand deaths between Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, the city of Beira was flooded with water and its basic infrastructure was razed. Also, there are serious problems caused by the lack of drinking water and electricity, health services work in precarious conditions and hundreds of cases of cholera have already been reported. In addition, the Beira Hospital, the only one in the city and serving a population of half a million inhabitants, it has an urgent need for medicines and sanitary material.
For this reason, through the Ágora Foundation, a current account has been opened to receive donations that will be used to buy medicines and material, and to send them to the Hospital as soon as possible. The current account of this solidary campaign, in Bankia, is (ES41) 2038 7275 0760 0017 5408.
