Carlos Mena reviews the Italian religious music at the concert 'Lacrimarum'

The countertenorCarlos Menadirects and stars in the concert'Lacrimarum'with which he reviews the Italian religious music of the 18th century, within theFestival 'Antiqva Music', which celebrates its seventh edition this year. This concert, which will take place next October 27 at 8:00 pm in the TheaterPérez Galdóstogether with the musicians of Ensemble Atlantiqva, has the collaboration of thePhilharmonic Society of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The essence of this festival is to make known the music between the 12th century and the Baroque, giving it a current look. On this occasion, it will beCarlos Mena, one of the most important countertenors of all time, which leads to trainingEnsemble Atlantiqvain this concert with a repertoire devoted entirely to Italian religious music of the eighteenth century with works by the most famous composers of that time such as Vivaldi, Germiniani and Scarlatti.

On the other hand,Ensemble Atlantiqvais a musical formation, recently created in Gran Canaria, integrated by professional musicians who collaborate habitually with prestigious national and international historicist formations. The cast is formed by Carles Fibla and Néstor Henríquez (violins), Giovanni Déniz (viola), Ruth Verona (cello), Juan Márquez (double bass) and Mar Tejadas (key and positive organ).

Complete program of singing workshops

Carlos Mena will offer on October 23 and 24, vocal technique workshops among the members of the children's and youth choirs of thePhilharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria. On the 25th, the singing students of the Professional Conservatory of Music of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will be those who enjoy the lessons of the countertenor.

In addition, on October 26, the eve of the concert and throughout the morning, Mena will teach master classes of Baroque Song, aimed at professional singers and singing students interested in ancient music. The classes – with a maximum of four students each – will consist of showing the interpretive richness in the Baroque repertoire and highlight technical considerations to adapt the vocal resources of the students to the needs of the score. Other festival concerts

The 'Antiqva Music Festival' is made up of three more concerts that will be held in thePérez Galdós theaterduring the months of October and November.

TheEurope of the Sun Kingis the name of the lute recital that the Gran Canaria Carlos Oramas, dedicated on November 4 at 12.00, to the French Baroque. This specialist in ancient "plucked string" instruments will perform works for theorbo and baroque guitar in the France of Louis XIV.

On November 10, at 8:00 pm, the Pérez Galdós Theater welcomes the very young band settled in Holland La Pantomime, which will offer a concert to commemorate the 350th anniversary of François Couperin with the Les Nations collection.

And finally, on November 17, the Antiqva Music Festival and the 'Literature and Music' cycle come together to offer a recital of poems by Fray Luis de León by Emilio Gutiérrez Caba. The renowned actor directs and interprets this show, accompanied by the baroque music trio Los Músicos de Urueña. A proposal premiered last July at the Almagro Festival, which brings us the poetic work of one of the great Spanish mystics and the music of his time.
