Carlos Berlanga, who this year marks the twentieth anniversary of his death, was a "global and complete artist" who did not stop creating and doing things because he had inherited the "gene of genius" from his father, the legendary director of tapes like The executioner or the national shotgunwhom he surpassed in creativity.

At least that is how José Luis García Berlanga sees it, the brother of this multidisciplinary artist who today participated in the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Carlos Berlanga. The Eternal Return", which from tomorrow until April 17 can be visited at the Oscar Niemeyer Cultural Center, in Avilés.
"Carlos is probably the one who inherited the genius gene, even surpassing my father, in the creative facility he had", and this can be seen in the exhibition organized by Pablo Cycet, friend and colleague of the artist and with whom He painted some of the last paintings, which can also be seen in this exhibition.
A collection of more than 200 paintings, drawings, his only known sculpture, graphic design works, original autographs of his song lyrics, sketches or work materials make up this overview of Carlos' singular universe.
"He was a global and complete artist, who, moreover, was unable to stop creating and doing things," he said of his brother, whom everyone knows for his music and his songs, as present today as he is. day they came out of his imagination: Who cares, Bloody Pearls, Dancing, Not you or anyone else or How could you do this to me, fruit of his successive stages in Kaka de Luxe, Alaska and the Pegamoides or Alaska and Dinarama.
In the exhibition you can also see pieces as curious as the one donated for the occasion by the family: an unfinished painting painted by four hands, father and son, the latter being a teenager.
Also one of the first sculptures created from some stones that he collected in Oropesa, where he spent the summer with his family, which he later sold together with his inseparable Nacho Canut at a stall on the Madrid flea market, where fate began to change the Madrid scene with a first meeting with Olvido Gara (Alaska), then 14 or 15 years old.
José Luis has defined those times as "moments of freedom and curiosity towards everything new that was coming, and they soaked up that".
For everyone who knew him, and as he himself recognized, he was more a painter than a musician, although this last facet catapulted him to glory.
In fact, the sample is completed with a sound space in which you can listen to an anthology of their best songs during the presentation concert of Alaska and Dinarama in the TVE program The Golden Age, as well as an interview with the members of the group.
In addition, one of the greatest exponents of the Madrid scene, who has become an international reference in cinema, Pedro Almodóvar, gave his "Berlanguian" collection to "The Eternal Return".
The director from La Mancha says of him in the catalog published for the occasion: "I have the feeling that his work, pictorial or musical, fell from his hands in a spontaneous and painless birth".
With the eternal return, Carlos Berlanga's heart rings again, twenty years after his death, like the thousand bells of his Neither you nor anyone.
