The airports of the network ofAenainthe Canary Islands registered more than 30 million passengers in the first eight months,which is 0.4% more than in the same period of the previous year.
Thus, of the total commercial passengers –29.76 million–, 12.09 million corresponded to domestic flights (+ 7.7%), and 17.67 million to international flights (-3.8%).
The airports of the archipelago with the highest passenger traffic during this period were those of Gran Canaria, with 8.77 million (-1.5%) and Tenerife South, with 7.44 million (+ 3.3%), occupying the sixth and seventh of the Aena network.
They are followed by César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport with 4.92 million (+ 1.1%); Fuerteventura, with 3.77 million (-7.9%); Tenerife North with 3.86 million (+ 5.9%); La Palma, with 990,823 (+ 4.3%); El Hierro, with 176,244 (+ 8.2%); and with the largest percentage increase La Gomera, with 52,143 passengers and 31.6% more.
On the other hand, the number of operations registered during these months was 274,054 (+ 0.2%) and the traffic of goods transported amounted to 24,155 tons (-0.4%).
PASSENGERS FALL 1.8% DURING AUGUST
As for last August, the Canary airports registered 3.94 million passengers, 1.8% less than in the same month of 2018.
Of the total number of commercial passengers – 3.92 million – 1.82 million corresponds to national traffic (+ 4.9%), and 2.09 million to international (-7.2%).
Likewise, the airports with the highest passenger traffic in August were those of Gran Canaria, with 1,082,402 (-5.5%), Tenerife South, with 912,874 (-0.5%), and César Manrique-Lanzarote with 686,632 ( + 0.2%), occupying the seventh, eighth and eleventh place of the Aena network in Spain.
Behind are Tenerife North, with 565,849 (+ 5.6%); Fuerteventura with 527,838 (-7.5%); La Palma, with 132,192 (-0.1%); El Hierro, with 29,861 (+ 13.8%); and with the largest percentage increase La Gomera, with 23.6% more and 11,543 passengers.
Regarding the number of operations, they were recorded35,351 movements, 1.5% less than in August 2018, while merchandise traffic was 2,916 tons transported, 1% less.
