The Tourism Minister of the Canarian Government, Isaac Castellano, stressed that the archipelago works on the diversification of markets in order to "minimize" the "certain deterioration" that has occurred in the air capacity of the islands with Germany.
This is what Castellano said during the inauguration of the Canary Islands pavilion at the ITB tourism fair in Berlin, where he has had a meeting with great tour operators who work with the archipelago.
In this regard, he stated that the "great objective" of this year in the ITB is to analyze with the sector as a whole the year 2019 that, admitted, "is presented with important uncertainties", to add that it is "aware that recent events related to with restructuring of airlines has meant a reduction "in the air capacity of the Canary Islands related to the German market.
Therefore, he said that of the meetings he has had with tour operators, he has committed himself to Thomas Cook to "reinforce the promotion" in the Canary Islands especially in the Family segment and in the summer season, since they state that "possibly the effects of this certain deterioration of air capacity is less visible in winter. "
In any case, he highlighted the "very important" results that Canarias is obtaining with the diversification of markets, citing that in the context of connectivity, in the third largest market that is peninsular, this has increased by 6.7%. hundred. To this, he added, the "very good" data registered by national tourism in January 2019, with a "spectacular growth of 32 percent."
"We are undoubtedly working to minimize the adjustment with respect to the German market but also to diversify our markets, making it possible for a possible eventuality in any of them to be compensated for by the arrival of tourists from another source", he concluded.
