According to the surveys of occupation in non-hotel tourist accommodation of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) published today,Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation(apartments, campings, accommodationtourismrural areas and shelters) exceeded 8.8 million in October, 2.4 percent less than in the same month of 2017.
Canary Islands was the preferred destination in apartments, with more than 2.5 million overnight stays, 6.4 percent less than in October 2017, and the one that reached the highest occupancy, with 76.8 percent of the apartments offered.
By tourist areas, Tenerife was the preferred destination, with 831,186 overnight stays, and Lanzarote with the highest occupancy, with 85.3 percent of the apartments offered.
The tourist spots with the highest number of overnight staysin October were the Canary Islands municipalities San Bartolomé deTirajana(Gran Canaria), Arona (Tenerife) and Tías (Lanzarote).
Intourismrural, Castilla y León was the preferred destination, with 159,498 overnight stays, 4.4% more than in October 2017, and the Balearic Islands achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 44.6% of the places offered.
By tourist areas, the island of Mallorca was the preferred destination, with 102,141 overnight stays and occupancy of 45.3% of the places offered.
The Valencian Community was the preferred destination in campsites, with 742,703 overnight stays, which represents an increase of 9.8% in annual rate, and La Rioja recorded the highest occupancy rate, with 62.6% of the plots offered.
For tourist areas, the Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with 406,155 overnight stays and an occupation of 76.2% of the plots offered.
The tourist spots with the most overnight stays were Benidorm, Mont-Roig del Camp and Cartagena.
