Canarias is the second autonomous community with the lowest average salary, with 1,679 euros – La Provincia

The Canary Islands was last year the second Autonomous Community with the lowest average gross salary, with 1,679.3 euros, 4.5% more than in 2017,just ahead of Extremadura (1,612.3 euros),according to the decile of salaries prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) based on data from the Active Population Survey (EPA).

In Spain, the average monthly salary, in gross terms, reached 1,944.4 euros in 2018, which is 2.9% more than in 2017, its biggest increase in ten years.It is the second consecutive year in which the average salary is increased after in 2016 it fell for the first time in ten years.

According to the INE data,30% of employees (4.8 million) earned less than 1,260.9 euros gross per month in 2018,while 40% (6.4 million) earned salaries of between 1,260.9 and 2,187.2 euros gross per month and the remaining 30% (4.8 million employees) earned a salary of more than 2,187.2 euros per month,

According to this statistic, a total of 3.2 million employees (20%) earned less than 1,046.9 euros gross per month during 2018. Of these,around 1.62 million workers earned less than 748.7 euros per month.

By sexes,15.6% of women earned less than 748.7 euros gross per month last yearand 13.5% received a gross salary of between 748.7 and 1,046.9 euros per month. In men, these percentages decrease to 4.8% and 6.7%, respectively.

To prepare this statistic, the INE ordersall employees -16,215,800 people during the past year-according to the amount of the monthly salary received and divided into 10 equal groups, with 10% of the workers in each group.
