Canarias gets rid of the stormy Karine - La Provincia

A new Atlantic storm, called Karine, will cause Monday the activation of warnings of different types in the Iberian Peninsula by phenomena such asl wind, rain, waves and snow, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), which has activated notices in all autonomous communities except in the Canary Islands and Ceuta.

For this Monday, it is expected that Karine and its associated front, very active, quickly crosses from west to east the Peninsula and is located at the end of the day to the northeast of the Balearic Islands, giving cloudy or overcast skies and generalized rainfall, with occasional storms.

Precipitation could be locally strong or persistent in northern peninsular areas, although it will tend to decrease cloudiness and rainfall throughout the day, especially in the center and south of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and may be slightly cloudy in some areas at the end of the day.

The exception will be the southern half of the peninsular Mediterranean coast, where there will only be some cloudy intervals with hardly any rainfall. In the Canary Islands, cloudy intervals are expected in the north of the islands, and slightly cloudy in the south.

The snow level this Monday will be between 1,500 and 2,000 meters initially, down to about 600 and 900 in the north and center, and up to 1,200 meters in the southern peninsula.

They will also lower temperatures in the northern half of the Peninsula, and no major changes are expected in the rest. Likewise, frosts are expected at the end of the day in high areas.

With respect to the wind, it will be of the western component, tending to the northwest, in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands; strong or very strong in large areas of the interior and especially in the communities of the Mediterranean area; and trade winds in the Canary Islands.

As highlighted by the AEMET, the very strong streaks of wind they will affect the entire Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with values ​​that probably reach or exceed 100 or 120 km / h, especially in high areas, points of the interior of the peninsular east third and the Balearic Islands.

In addition, there will be poor state of the sea in all the coastlines, with waves of 4 to 6 meters in Galicia and Cantabrian and 3 to 4 meters in the Mediterranean coasts, and wind force 7 to 8 in many areas.


As highlighted by the AEMET, it is likely that on Tuesday, when the stormy Karine move away to Italy, end this storm of rain, wind and sea.

However, this day there will still be rainfall in the northern peninsular, which will be more intense in Galicia, as well as very strong wind gusts in areas of the northern and eastern third peninsular and in the Balearic Islands, although they will be less intense than the previous day, as well as poor state of the sea.

Too snow will be significant in northern mountain areas at the beginning of the day.

And as of Wednesday, although uncertainty increases considerably, it is possible that the unstable weather continues at least in the northern peninsula.
