Canarian pharmacies issue more than 3,000 Covid certificates in two days

Archipelago pharmacies have already issued more than 3,000 Covid certificates. According to the data managed by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, from Monday, until early this morning, a payroll made up of 3,179 people I had requested this document at the drugstores. It must be remembered that since January 10 these establishments are authorized to issue certificates, a measure that was born with the purpose of decongesting health centers.

«We are delighted that the Canary Islands Health Service [SCS] you have finally taken the hand that we have been extending to you for a long time. In fact, since the arrival of the pandemic, community pharmacists have offered to collaborate, "said Loreto Gómez, president of the Official College of Pharmacists (COF) of Las Palmas.

In the opinion of the professional, drugstores, supported by pharmaceutical distribution, can act as strategic establishments for the care of citizens. «We reach 99.9% of the population that has a pharmacy five or ten minutes from their home. We have always thought that we can give more, so we are very satisfied with this decision and we hope that it will be the beginning of many other collaborations, "said the president of the institution.

At the moment, it is only possible to issue the certificates of the people who reside in the Canary Islands, a data that is collated through the health card. "Interested persons must also show their DNI", added Gómez.

The department of the regional Executive is now working on the elaboration of a protocol that allows pharmacies to carry out antigen tests and communicate the positives to Health, something that is already being done in Aragon, Catalonia, Cantabria, the Valencian Community and Murcia.

Antigen test

As reported by the Ministry on Wednesday, the administration is finalizing a computer adjustment so that pharmacies can access the SCS programs, although there is still no scheduled date to conclude said adaptation. “This is something that is within the range of things that we can do in the image and likeness of other communities that have been doing it for months. We are waiting for Health to tell us how and when, "said the head of the aforementioned collegiate body.

However, carrying out these tests in pharmacies will go hand in hand with an adaptation of the spaces. "Not all pharmacies will be able to carry them out, since it is necessary to have an isolated area that has a differentiated entrance from the rest of the people so that it does not become a contagion center", Loreto Gómez stressed, without forgetting to highlight that this activity "It will be voluntary, both on the part of pharmacies and pharmacists"
