Calvo now asks that the Congress of Deputies be called only Congress so as not to exclude deputies

The first vice president of the Government, Carmen Calvo, has asked this Wednesday that the Congress of Deputies shorten her name and be renamed only “Congress” to avoid the exclusion of deputies.

In an interview at the SER, Calvo explained that this initiative would equate the denomination of Congress to that of the Senate which is only one word.

“If they say vice president I don’t feel alluded to”, has commented and added that Women have the right to “call the text of our Constitution, call us by our gender: presidents, ministers and deputies”.

The socialist leader echoes the letter sent this Monday by Ana Caballe, National History Prize, to the president of Congress, Meritxell Batet, suggesting the change of denomination of the institution.

“I fully support this initiative because women in this country have the right to have language evolve and recognize us,” he said.

Carmen Calvo he asked the RAE for a report on inclusive language in the Constitution where the institution concludes that it is not in favor of its reform. EFE
