Calvo admits "many discrepancies" with United We on the feminist agenda

The acting Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, said Thursday that between the PSOE and Podemos there are "discrepancies" in the feminist agenda, an issue that has come up at the meeting that the socialist leader, Pedro Sánchez, has had with associations for equality, which she has also attended.

"We with United We can have many discrepancies also in the feminist agenda, everyone knows it, we are a party that we have been carrying out very important laws for 40 years and they have obviously transferred that concern to us," Calvo told reporters after a meeting that has lasted almost three hours.

The acting vice president has expressed herself thus asked if the meeting had talked about the possibility, now frustrated, of the PSOE transferring to United We can the Equality portfolio in the coalition government that was negotiated before the investiture session . "They have manifested with a lot of tranquility and a lot of freedom," he said.

The meeting has been the first of several that Sanchez plans to keep with civil society groups to develop a progressive government program and then present it to United We and also to PP and Citizens, in the hope that they will facilitate his government.

"It has gone very well," said the chief of the Executive at the end of the meeting. The associations have presented to him and Calvo their demands and proposals to "improve" their program and their work, in the words of Calvo.

As he has said, they have transferred their expectation that Spain has "everything in the face of" a progressive "government that continues to bet on policies of equality between men and women," which is "the fundamental element of democracy."

"That we do not have any threat of regression in the policies that have made this country an exemplary country as democracy in the world," he said. According to Calvo, the associations have stressed the importance of "not going backwards, that the public policies that have to continue betting on the safety of women and against sexist violence are not questioned."

These policies, he continued, "are questioned by Vox and are dragged into many institutions" in a situation of "setback." "We have moved that concern," he said.

Twenty groups participated in the meeting, including the Men's Association for Gender Equality (Ahige). Also the Association for the Prevention, Reintegration and Care of Prostituted Women (APRAMP), the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists (AMIT), the Association of Women for Healthy Aging (AMES) and CERMI Women.
