Calviño asks parties, communities and banks to work “side by side” to make digital Spain a reality

The Third Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia calviño, has joined the message of unity launched by the President of the Government this Monday. Specifically, during his speech at the inauguration of the “34 Meeting of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications” that takes place between Madrid and Santander, he urged “work together side by side to accelerate this transformation process and make Digital Spain a reality”. It has also reported that the app promoted by the Government – “Radar Covid” has already registered 3.4 million downloads and already has the incorporation of the Community of Madrid and Navarra, joining 10 other autonomies.

Specifically, Calviño has valued that “digitization is one of the key axes of a country project that challenges us all, the Government, all political parties, the autonomous communities and the financial system.” In this sense, he has urged “act together” to achieve the best results and recalled that the last rescue fund approved by the European Union (EU) of up to 750,000 million euros, of which Spain will receive about 140,000 million, is “a unique opportunity to modernize the country” although he has admitted that the road will not be easy. In this sense, he has given as an example the ability of Spain to manufacture sanitary products such as masks on its soil. A capacity driven by the health emergency.

The economic vice president has also valued the “Agenda Spain Digital 2025“during a large part of his speech, presented in July, and on which the Government’s number three has stressed that he will mobilize up to 70,000 million euros (15,000 million will come from the new European funds and another 50,000 million from the private sector) in public and private investment until 2022 around 50 measures and 10 axes such as guaranteeing adequate digital connectivity for the entire population, reinforcing the digital skills of workers , accelerate the digitization of companies or move towards a data economy.

In line with this he has claimed “the importance of public-private collaboration” to start the transformation of the country and added that the aforementioned Agenda will be key to mobilize the 140,000 million that Spain should receive from Brussels.

The “scandal” of the lack of State pacts

For his part, the president of Ametic Pedro Mier, has launched several messages during the inauguration and one especially directed at the political class: Mier has described as “scandal” that political parties have been “unable to close state pacts, to create an agreement with all political groups that places the priorities where it touches “. In this line, he has claimed “an intelligent intervention of the State” and verified that the “complicity” of the Administration and the trust of governments is needed to be successful.

Mier has considered in line with the above, he has asked that governments “believe in companies“and promote entrepreneurship and innovation. It has also drawn attention to the” historic opportunity “represented by European funds and the” obligation “that organizations such as ametic demand that they are used correctly.

Specifically, he has urged in his speech to promote the reindustrialization of Spain. “We need a country strategy with 21st century technologies “, has found. In this sense, he has called for “an effort” at a public and private level to place ourselves in the European average and that of the leading countries.

For his part, the CEO of Banco Santander Spain Rami Aboukhair, has also highlighted that the entity within the extraordinary circumstances due to Covid-19 has helped to “more than 200,000 families” delaying their payments and taking stock of the advances in digitization such as the case of the more than 650,000 operations already carried out with an electronic signature. Along these lines, Aboukhair has shown his confidence in the future of Spain – “perseverance” that would allow us to rise again as a country – and highlighted the relevance of public-private collaboration.
