The South Korean band BTS swept the American Music Awards this Sunday by winning in the three categories for which they competed, including the most important of the night, which rewards the artist of the Year.

South Koreans were the main protagonists of the gala, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles (USA), since in addition also take the award for best group and best pop song for ‘Butter’, they performed twice, one of them with the British Coldplay. “This is a miracle. The American Music Awards (abbreviated as AMAs) serve as anteroom of the prestigious Grammy, although with the difference that they are determined by a popular survey directed to consumers of music, rather than being voted on by industry experts.

Among the honors also stood out the names of the Americans Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion, who won three awards each, including the best R&B artist and best rapper, respectively.

Taylor Swift, meanwhile, won the award for best pop singer for the seventh time in his career and his album ‘Evermore’ was awarded the title of best pop album. Swift is the artist with the most AMAs in history, with a total of 34 victories.

Finally the great favorite of the night, Olivia Rodrigo, only got one award of the seven he aspired to, the new artist of the year.

Bad Bunny triumphs among Latinos

In the Latino categories, the Puerto Rican Bad Bunny led with two awards, for best male Latin artist and best Latin album for ‘El Último Tour Del Mundo’, just three days after that album triumphed in the urban section of the Latin Grammy.

Becky G won the best female Latin artist and Kali Uchis’s ‘Telepathy’ took the title of favorite Latin song. Sergio Lizárraga’s Banda MS closed the Latin chapter with the award for the best group.

As a novelty, the AMAS inaugurated this year a category that awarded the most viral song on social networks What TikTok and that it was for ‘Body’, by Megan Thee Stallion. The Italian Måneskin, recent winners of the Eurovision Song Contest, who performed at the gala presented by rapper Cardi B.
