The unusual avalanche in the middle of spring was caused not only by the high temperatures but also by the presence in Rio of many tourists from some of the cities of Brazil where the Black Consciousness Day holiday will be celebrated on Tuesday and They opted to take a four-day extended break.

According to the Río Alerta meteorological information system, at 16.00 local time this Sunday (18.00 GMT), a thermal sensation of 40.9 degrees Celsius registered in Santa Cruz, a neighborhood in the west of Rio.

The maximum temperature this Sunday in the city, according to the meteorology service Inmet, was 36.8 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon in Santa Cruz as well.

These temperatures are usual only in the summer, when Rio de Janeiro receives millions of tourists both for its traditional farewell party of the year and for its famous Carnival.
