Brazil extends the restriction on the entry of foreigners for thirty days

The Brazilian government extended this Friday and unified the specific restrictions it had on the entry of foreigners to the country for a period of thirty more days, according to a provision that was published in the Official Gazette.

The “exceptional and temporary” restriction extends for one more month the veto that foreigners of “any nationality” can enter the country “by road or other land means, by air or by water transport” to Brazilian territory.

According to the measure, the extension is due to a “technical and informed recommendation” from the National Agency for Health Surveillance (Anvisa, regulator) for “reasons related to the risks of contagion and spread of the coronavirus.”

However, the adopted provision exempts from the restrictions the Brazilians who return to the country and the foreigners with permanent or temporary residence or who are part of official diplomatic missions.

The determination, which unifies others that were applied in recent days to specific cases on each border and control of air and maritime spaces, was made by the ministries of the Civil House (Presidency), Justice and Public Security, Infrastructure and Health.

The main border crossing, located in Foz de Iguacú, in the southern state of Paraná and the region shared by Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, was already completely restricted, while to Pacaraima, a city in the Amazonian state of Roraima and bordering Venezuela. , Army troops were sent.

Controls have also been redoubled in the six border cities with Uruguay and some with Paraguay and Bolivia, where practically the limit with Brazil is given by a street, such as Tabatinga, in the state of Amazonas, and which unites the country with Colombia and Peru, and that it is the city with the highest mortality rate.

Brazil surpassed Russia on Friday in the number of cases of the new coronavirus after registering 20,803 new infections in one day and became the second country in the world most affected by the pandemic.

The number of cases in Brazil reached 330,890 this Friday, ranking only behind the United States, which has more than 1.5 million infections, according to the balance disclosed by the Ministry of Health and reflecting the increasing progress of the disease in the country.

The Latin American giant reached 21,048 deaths, after registering 1,001 new deaths compared to the previous day, a slightly lower number than the record of 1,188 recorded on Thursday.
