Santiago de Compostela, Feb 21 (EFE) .- The collaborating photojournalist of Efe Brais Lorenzo has been recognized with the first prize in the International POY for the best photograph, in the category dedicated to ‘Daily Life’, with an image captured in a Galician nursing home.
This photojournalist had already achieved second place in the POYLatam 2021 international competition at the beginning of 2021 for the same image.
The snapshot with which he has doubled was taken at the San Carlos socio-sanitary center, in Celanova (Ourense), on the occasion of the 98th birthday of Elena Pérez, an old woman who two weeks before her anniversary was struggling to overcome her infection by covid- 19.
This woman managed to escape unscathed and, with a negative test in hand, she was able to blow out the candles with the professionals who take care of her daily.
Brais Lorenzo was proposed from the beginning of the health crisis to capture the ways to face the emergency in nursing homes, hospitals and also in ucis. He did not stop fighting until he got into critics. Finally, they opened the doors of the Ourense hospital unit.
“I think I am where I need to be. Of course something has changed in me with all this,” he himself told Efe.
