The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, today celebrated the "great news" that is the offer of King Mohammed VI of Morocco to Algeria to establish mechanisms to "strengthen the relationship and regional integration" between the two.
By means of a message in his Twitter account, Borrell has reacted thus to the proposal launched by the King of Morocco to Algeria to establish a "direct and sincere" dialogue to overcome its discrepancies through a joint political mechanism of consultations and cooperation.
For Borrell, this initiative will serve to "strengthen the relationship and regional integration between two important countries, which are neighbors, friends and strategic partners of Spain," he said.
The appeal of the King of Morocco is novel given that these are two countries that periodically call their ambassadors for consultations or publish diplomatic protests always against the backdrop of Western Sahara, as Morocco has repeatedly accused Algeria of financing and arming the Front Polisario
Since 1994, the two countries maintain their land border closed by Algerian decision, and on that border now stands a wall that runs hundreds of kilometers.
