The Minister of the Presidency, Felix Bolaños, has guaranteed the “absolute commitment” of the central government with the reconstruction of La Palma after the volcanic eruption and has advanced that the president, Pedro Sanchez, will return to the island on Sunday to supervise the emergency work and the measures that are being taken with the affected population. Sánchez’s visit on Sunday “is the best sign” of the Spanish government’s support for the island, Bolaños reiterated.

“The reconstruction of La Palma is our priority, we want to be with the people who are suffering, who have lost everything, who do not start from scratch, and facilitate their life project,” he said at a press conference after the first meeting of the mixed commission between the central Executive and the Canarian institutions, held in the capital of Palma.

Thus, accompanied by the Canarian president, Angel Victor Torres, and the head of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano HernandezBolaños commented that at the meeting he had heard the “priorities” that the island needs to incorporate them into the special plan. He has pointed out that the damage on La Palma is “enormous and unpredictable” but has insisted that the Government will make the necessary effort to cover all needs since the eruption has not only affected material aspects but also “vital projects” . “They are pieces of life that have been left by the way,” he added.

Along these lines, he pointed out that citizens “can be calm” and “proud” of their administrations because they “work hand in hand” to respond to their needs, for now with a first line of aid of 10.5 million euros. euros. Bolaños insisted that the meeting “has been very useful and productive.”

For his part, the President of the Canarian Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, indicated that next week the first 16 homes of the 107 that will be bought for those affected by the eruption who have lost their usual home will already be acquired. Likewise, there will be a team of social workers and technicians who will evaluate the families most in need of housing so that they are the first dwellers in the flats.
