In an emotional ceremony held on the occasion of the patron of the Municipal Police of Gerona, the first dog of her Canine Unit, Blanca, was decorated with the Medal of the Cross of Honor for Police Merit. It is the second recognition received by this German shepherd who was rescued by his guide Narcís and who has been fighting against the consumption of narcotics in the Catalan city since 2017.
His first Medal of Merit for Police Dogs was received in February 2018 by Unijepol (National Union of Chiefs and Local Police Officers) in recognition of his work against the consumption and trafficking of drugs on public roads.
When the City Council of Gerona decided to create a dog unit, it chose Blanca, a dog very prepared in detection that since 2012 had worked in the Salt Canine Unit since 2012.
In her years of police profession, Blanca has more than 2,000 operations related to the possession of narcotics and has contributed to the detention of a quarantine of people. He has also collaborated in raids conducted by the Civil Guard or the Mossos d'Esquadra discovering several marijuana plantations.
Blanca is well-known in the city, as in addition to patrolling with her guide she participates in programs developed in schools in Girona explaining and familiarizing children with the tasks developed by the Local Police.
