BetisTOThree victories and a draw in four derbies in a row in Primera
Quique Setinwill have tonight the opportunity toequalize a historic record in Betis bench with more than three decades of validity. Its protagonist wasLuis del Sol, myth green and white, legendary player and coach in two stages, which today precisely celebrated his 84th birthday a week ago.
The Soriano established what 32 years later is stillthe best series of results of the club of the thirteen bars in the Sevillian derbies of First Division: three wins and one draw in four consecutive matches. A streak that reached between the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.
The series started on March 23, 1986 at Benito Villamarn, with a 1-0 triumph against their eternal rival with goal from Romo and Del Sol on the bench. Continued on day 2 of the following season, with 1-2 at Snchez-Pizjun with a double from Poli Rincn. And it had its third season in day 19, with a 0-0 in Helipolis.
That course, known as 'La Liga del playoff', ended with some direct confrontations depending on the position in the table to determine the final classification of the championship. Ah they went back to face the two Sevillian teams, with the 1-3 that closed the series of Del Sol, in Nervin, with goals by Gail, Gabino and Caldern.
Only three times more in the history of clashes between Betis and Sevilla in Primera División, the Verdiblancos have managed to be four consecutive duels without losing. One was between the seasons 1960-61 and 1961-62, withFerdinand Daucikon the bench, with two draws and two wins.
Other, between the seasons 1999-2000, 2001-02 and 2002-03, with an interval of one year for a descent to Second, and four consecutive draws:one with Guus Hidding at the head of the technical body, two with Juande Ramos and the third and last one with Vctor Fernndez.
The last time that Betis managed to link four derbies without losing was between the 2008-09 seasons, with Chaparro in front, and 2011-12, with Pepe Mel, and a lapse of two courses in the Silver Division. A triumph and a draw for each one of them closed the series.
Setin, with a victory in his first league derby, a tie in the second, and another victory in the third,is just a triumph to match Luis del Sol's streak, the best in club history in the top Spanish football category, or a draw to 'settle' with Daucik's.
