Belarra proposes a fund to help municipalities to reduce all transport passes to 10 euros per month

The Ministry of Social Rights headed by the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has demanded this Tuesday to extend the Social Shield throughout the year 2022 and has proposed new price reductions in public transport, in line with those adopted in Germany, update non-contributory pensions to the CPI and expand the social bonus for electricity for the most vulnerable families.

Sources from the ministry have explained to elDiario.es that "the invasion of Ukraine led the Government last March to adopt a series of ambitious measures, of an economic and social nature, to guarantee the protection of people and their families by public institutions”. In Belarra's opinion, "all these measures included in the so-called Social Shield must be extended until December 31" and he will present it this Tuesday before the Council of Ministers.

The department of the leader of Podemos considers that these measures must be complemented by three additional proposals – which should be incorporated into RDL 6/2022 of March 29 – to “guarantee the protection of families and the most vulnerable population against the effects of rising energy prices. Social Rights thus proposes "to promote a drastic reduction in the price of public transport throughout the national territory, creating for this a fund to help municipalities and autonomous communities, so that citizens are provided with transport at a reduced price to save with it Energy.

This fund, the sources consulted point out, "should serve to, in a similar way to the measure that the German government has adopted, reduce the monthly subscription to 10 euros in all the cities and autonomous communities of the country."

Extend the extension of the social bond

Belarra also proposes "to update non-contributory pensions immediately to the CPI, advancing said update in the July payroll." In this way, explains the ministry, "the lowest pensions will be able to face the price increase they are suffering without having to wait until the end of the year or see how during these months there is a decrease in their purchasing power."

Another of the measures contemplated by Social Rights is the reform of the social bond, urgently approving its modification with several objectives: “Expand its extension so that it reaches the two million families that need it at once, speeding up their access through automation of the procedures and the exchange of information between administrations, and regulating the application of the precautionary principle so that, in a situation of non-payment, the company must necessarily inform of the situation of vulnerability of the client before taking any action”.

The Podemos part of the Government has been pressuring its coalition partner, the PSOE, for weeks to make a turn to the left in the remainder of the legislature with the aim of stopping the feet of a right that is very well positioned in the polls and, above all, to redirect the relationship with partners such as ERC or EH Bildu, disrupted as a result of the espionage scandal that has marked the political news in recent weeks.
