Barcelona to try the option of taking a Baccalaureate in three years - La Provincia

The Consorci d'Educació de Barcelona will implement the next course a pilot scheme in three institutes of a flexible baccalaureate that will allow it to be studied in three years after detecting "a lot of abandonment" in this educational stage.

At a press conference on Thursday to present a plan of shock against the school segregation and school supply initial, the president of the Consorci, Josep Gonzàlez-Cambray, explained that it will be taught at the Infanta Isabel, Ferran Tallada and Balmes institutes, and that students will be able to decide whether to take it in two or three years.

Gonzàlez-Cambray has stressed that it is intended to be a more competent and integrative stage and will go in line with the new decree of Baccalaureate in which the Generalitat works, and prepare both to access the university and the higher education training cycles of FP, breaking the idea that it only serves to access university degrees.

Barcelona also increases the offer of the Artistic Baccalaureate in three centers, a professional baccalaureate with stays in companies in three others and will introduce specific contents with vocational training content in 11 institutes of the city that already have an FP training offer.

The Consorci wants to bet on the universalization of the post-compulsory stage 16-18 years and to promote the transversality among the teachings, facilitating the viability of access to the intermediate-level training cycles for all the students who finish ESO and choose this itinerary, and Gonzàlez-Cambray has said that the bridging course between intermediate and higher grade cycles "It tends to disappear."

Shock plan

The Consorci will apply the next course, in the framework of the plan of shock against school segregation, a pre-assignment of places in P3 and first of ESO in all educational centers for vulnerable students detected in collaboration with Social Services and new criteria in the allocation of the live enrollment during the course.

The vice president of the Consorci d'Educació, Laia Ortiz, explained that they seek an equitable distribution and guarantee educational success, and has stressed that families will receive a personalized letter with the pre-assigned proposal, which they can validate when formalizing the registration.

Ortiz explained that this pre-assignment has already started last year in P3 but that it will now be systemic, and Gonzàlez-Cambray has ensured that if the offer to families is in a concerted center, they will be guaranteed access "without economic barriers".

The Consorci d'Educació de Barcelona has remarked that students in vulnerable situations will have the reservation space, exemption from the payment of fees for schooling, free dining service, extracurricular activities and summer activities, and guarantee of a place in open centers .

Initial offer

For the 2019-2020 academic year, the Consorci d'Educació has estimated a demand of 12,750 applications for a total of 14,090 seats between public and arranged, with an initial offer that increases in six groups, with the novelty of the Institut Escola Arts, what was born from the transformation of the Miquel Bleach school and the Institut Joan Coromines in the old school arranged Sant Vicenç de Paül.

With a total of 5,484 places of first of ESO in public schools, the Consorci estimates a demand of 5,200, at a stage in which the concerted centers --majority in the continuity of the Primary- will offer 9,090, including those of continuity.

The Institut La Sagrera and the Institut Pedralbles will open doors, the latter product of the fusion of Ausiàs March and Joan Boscà, in a course in which public and concerted three groups are reduced compared to the previous one by a readjustment of the offer.

Regarding FP, the Consorci expands the offer, with four new groups in medium-level training cycles in high demand and four others in higher grade linked to the 4.0 industry, and the Center d'Ensenyaments Postobligatoris will be created in the Bon Pastor neighborhood, where the Institut Rubió i Tudurí, the Institut Rambla Prim and the Escola de Mitjans Audiovisuals de Barcelona in Can Batlló are planned.
