The Barcelona-El Prat Airport registry 3.27 million passengers in the month of January, 7.1% more than a year before, one tenth above the average and a historical maximum for the start of the year. As usual in recent years, in January El Prat grows above Madrid. Adolfo Suárez-Barajas saw passenger traffic grow by 6.2% to 4.38 million passengers.
The group of airports of the Aena network closed January with more than 16.58 million passengers, which represents an increase of 7% compared to the same month of 2018, according to the data published on Tuesday by the airport manager.
Merchandise traffic grows 4%, to 77,326 tons
After Madrid and Barcelona, Gran Canaria was located, with 1.18 million passengers (similar figure to 2018); Tenerife South, with 1.02 million (+ 5.3%); Malaga, with 1.01 (8.4%); Palma de Mallorca, with 839,130 (+ 19%), and Alicante-Elche, with 784,938 (+ 11.2%).
In terms of cargo, El Prat increases traffic by 5.9% to 12,978 tons, while Madrid adds 39,723 tons, 5% more, and continues in first place. Overall, Spanish airports spent 77,326 tons of goods in January, 3.9% more.
The Catalan network
Girona-Costa Brava registered 37,415 passengers, 10.3% less, and 557 movements, representing a decrease of 23.3%. Reus has made a total of 756 movements, 1.5% more, and 5,834 passengers, 11.8% less. For its part, Sabadell has made 3,289 operations, 13.4% more, and has transported 262 passengers, 10.3% less.
