The Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, attended this Sunday the solemn mass that took place in the Almudena cathedral for the sick and deceased in the coronavirus pandemic.
In the religious ceremony, the participants have kept the safety distance and have worn gloves.
The regional president has attended the mass, officiated by the Archbishop of Madrid, Carlos Osoro, after speaking at the seventh videoconference held by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, with the regional leaders to address the evolution of COVID-19.
Díaz Ayuso requested in writing this week to intervene at the beginning of the videoconference to fulfill the commitment to attend mass for the sick and deceased in this health crisis, according to regional government sources.
On April 12, the Madrid president also asked for a change in the order of interventions at Pedro Sánchez’s telematic meeting with regional leaders in order to go to the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez airport to receive a plane from the Community from Madrid with 113 tons of sanitary material from China.
