UD San Fernando won yesterday its first victory in the promotion phase to the 2nd RFEF. And he did it in extremis. The southern team, which debuted last Sunday with a defeat against Messenger after the Covid cases registered in its squad, recovered from that setback by imposing itself on the other representative from La Palma, Atlético Paso, with a goal in added time (2- 1).
Tino Déniz’s team, in the first half, was superior to his opponent in arrivals to the area. However, the numerous interventions of goalkeeper Luis Arellano prevented the Maspalomas team from going ahead.
The home team was rewarded for their insistence in the 28th minute with an own goal from the visiting goal. But Adrián Hernández, in one of the few goal options for Atlético Paso, equalized the contest before the break.
In the second period, San Fernando had possession and chances from start to finish. In extra time, Aythami Betancort, with a cross shot, scored the winning goal for the home team.
San Fernando jumped onto the field wanting to be a leading player on an offensive level. In the third minute, the first approach came with a long ball from Enrique for Ruymán, but goalkeeper Arellano went ahead and cut the danger. Atlético Paso replied four minutes later with an assist from Jaime so that Aday, from the edge of the area, finished slightly off the mark.
In the 14th minute, the local Aythami Betancort, with a shot from a lateral free kick, forced the Palmer goalkeeper to intervene again, who sent the ball to a corner kick. Near the halfway point of the first half, Héctor Choco sent a good cross that Ruymán finished off with a header. In the next play, Héctor Choco tried his luck with a shot centered in the vicinity of the area that the goalkeeper, again, cleared for a corner.
The prominence of the Atlético Paso goal was extended in a key play, but this time in favor of San Fernando. A head of Ruymán put him in his own door in his attempt to clear. The goal was widely protested by the visiting team considering that the goalkeeper had been knocked down by a local player (1-0).
With the score against, the green-black team left their field and retaliated for the enormous pressure that Tino Déniz’s block was imposing on them. Just before the break, a great assist from Aday served as Adrián Hernández, free of mark, to score the equalizer.
After the break, San Fernando continued to seek victory against a rival who was waiting on the counter. In the 51st minute of play, Héctor Choco was very close to surprising the Palmero team with a heeled shot that repelled the crossbar. The southerners did not faint and had their prize in the last gasp of the duel. Aythami Betancort, with a cross shot, put the final 2-1 in 94 ‘.
