The feature film project Pescadores del Desierto, produced by Siroco Factory and directed by Gran Canaria filmmaker Ayoze O'Shanahan (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1978), has won the Canary Islands Film Award from the fourth edition of the Canary Islands Film Accelerator that organizes the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster (CLAC) this 2020, with the collaboration of PROEXCA, a public company attached to the Ministry of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Along with seven other finalists, the project has participated in an intensive program of meetings with eight experts from the audiovisual sector at an international level during the last two weeks, including face-to-face work sessions from December 1 to 4, held at the Nexo Building of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

On Friday of last week, the pitching session (oral presentation of projects) took place in the assembly hall of the ULPGC School of Industrial and Civil Engineering, coordinated by specialist Mª José Díez (Executive Producer of La loneliness and ECAM teacher). The rest of the participating projects were Perhaps, produced by Arima León; The skin of the volcano, produced by The Black Ants and the Bentejuí Project; They call me Panzer, from La chola films and Infocusvideo; A long way home, by MGC Gestión Cultural; Yira, produced by Magnetic Films Creations; and How to Catch a Shooting Star, by Chukumi Studio.

Fishermen of the Desert is a feature-length documentary film led by the production company Siroco Factory that has the journalist José Naranjo and the historian Germán Santana for the script. History links the traditional fishing of the Imraguen people of Mauritania with that of the Canary Islands, both in danger of disappearing.

The prize sponsored by Canary Islands Film is endowed with 1,200 euros for attendance at international markets and forums 2021 and, in addition, includes direct selection at CIIF Market 2021, the oldest co-production forum in the Canary Islands that is scheduled to be held in the first 2021 semester in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the result of a recent agreement with the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster.

The Canary Islands Film Accelerator has been able to celebrate its fourth edition mainly in person, which has made it possible to attend the Canary Islands with numerous experts in matters of financing, tax incentives, marketing and international distribution. In addition, as another novelty, this edition has been personalized script consultancies and a session of international alliances from Colombia to the different participants. The program has been coordinated by Jairo López, CLAC manager, and Isabel Arencibia, CLAC coordinator in Gran Canaria.
