Author María Dueñas and singer-songwriter Marwan will attend the Panama Book Fair

Panama City, Jun 10 (EFE) .- The Spanish novelist María Dueñas and her compatriot, singer-songwriter and poet Marwan will participate in the 17th edition of the International Book Fair of Panama (FIL 2021), which will take place from 19 to 22 next August in a semi-virtual version, its organizers reported this Thursday.

Dueñas, born in Puertollano, Ciudad Real, in 1964, will thus have her second participation in the maximum festival of Panamanian letters, after attending the 11th edition of 2015 to present her third novel "La Templanza" (Planeta, 2015) .

Now the writer Ciudadrealeña will appear again to show her fifth novel, entitled "Sira", also published by the Planeta publishing label (2021), the president of the Panamanian Book Chamber (Capali) and organizer of FIL, Orit, told Efe. Btesh.

"Sira" hit bookstores on April 14, almost 12 years after the 2009 publication of her first novel "El tiempo entre costuras", with an initial circulation of 500,000 copies, launched by the Planeta publishing house in Spain and Latin America.

Jerusalem, London, Madrid and Tangier are the settings for this novel that begins at the end of the Second World War and where the experiences of Sira take place, the also protagonist of "The time between seams", which was adapted into a television series and had more than five million readers around the world.

Orit indicated that he does not rule out that in addition to the presentation of his new work, the moment is propitious to speak with Dueñas about his experience of seeing his novels taken to the cinema, but he indicated that he will have to consult with the author about the possibility of touching on this point.

As before "The time between seams" and "Temperance", and now in the production phase "The Captain's Daughters" (2018), his latest novel "Sira" has received proposals for television adaptation.

Btesh added that the Madrid singer-songwriter Marwan will also participate in the Panama International Book Fair.

Marwan Abu -Tahoun Recio, born in Madrid in 1979 to a Palestinian father and a Spanish mother, will present his fourth book of poems "A Woman in the Throat" (Planet) at the XVII FIL in Panama.

Other books of poetry by Marwan are "The unstoppable loves" and "All my futures are with you." His song "The Old Boxer" became a musical novelty in 2020.

The Colombian writer Pilar Quintana, awarded last January with the XXIV Alfaguara Novel Prize 2021 for her work "Los abismos", will also be at FIL.

The inauguration of FIL 2021 is scheduled at the National Theater, in the old town of Panama City, with a capacity for 600 people, although for the occasion and due to the security measures due to the pandemic, only 247 will be able to enter, Btesh told Efe last May.

Btesh detailed on that occasion that they plan to hold at least three or four events in public places that have been offered by the Ministry of Culture, the Spanish embassy and other legations based in the country, but it will depend on "how the vaccination progresses in Panama" against the covid-19.

Authors from the US, which is the guest country in this edition, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and Cuba have confirmed their participation at the XVII FIL.
