Rocasa Gran Canaria already knows the first step they have to take to lift the Copa del Reina if they want to make it more their own. Because so far that possession only has it in the host rank, which is not little. An adjective that you want to elevate to the category of owner. Carlos Herrera’s team will meet in the quarterfinals of the tournament, which will be held at the Rita Hernández de Telde from May 21 to 23, with the Aula Alimentos Valladolid.
There was a certain relief on the faces of the players and club managers who walked in the hermitage of San Pedro Mártir, the venue for the draw. In a short tournament, without the possibility of failure, a mistake sends you home and the opponent almost goes to a secondary place. But luck, in a way, had been with the Las Remudas team. On their side of the table, Rocasa had avoided Super Amara Bera Bera, dominator of the Iberdrola Guerreras League with an iron fist this season – they have only given up a couple of draws and they don’t know what it’s like to lose. The donostiarras would only be rivals in the grand final.
The other tie for his side faces Atlético Guardés and Liberbank Gijón. On the other side, Rincón Fertility Málaga-Bera Bera and Elche visitelche.com-KH7 Granollers. The schedule of all the qualifying rounds is to be defined. The last precedent between Aula Alimentos Valladolid and Rocasa was last weekend. After a tight match, the Yellows won 34-29. The story will not be easy.
On their side, Rocasa will have the public – if the health situation allows it – in a tournament that returns to Gran Canaria after ten years. The event, organized by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation, was attended by the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, the Minister of Sports Francisco Castellano, the president and vice-president of the Handball Federation, Francisco Blázquez and Blas Parrilla, as well as the president of Rocasa Gran Canaria, Antonio Moreno.
Blázquez stressed that “the Canary Islands have a lot to say in this sport” and referred to some of the representatives of handball at the highest level, such as the referee team Ángel Sabroso and Óscar Raluy, the referee Nandi Espino –present at the event– or Rocasa himself. “I am sure that this championship will be a success because of his love and dedication to handball; here you live in a special way ”, he pointed out. The nod to the past came with several of the Remudas veterans, who represented the teams participating in the event.
On the other hand, Héctor Suárez, mayor of Telde, celebrated that this event can be enjoyed with a Rita Hernández “renovated for the occasion” and that it will have a new playing surface. Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, highlighted the presence of another appointment in the elite on the island and also “of women’s sports, which plays a fundamental role and, probably, will have to make a greater effort to become visible.
