At least six people were killed today by a landslide generated by the rains that buried three houses of a settlement in the Colombian municipality of Barrancabermeja, in the department of Santander (northeast), authorities said.
"An avalanche due to heavy rains has left three houses buried in commune 13, in the San Silvestre neighborhood (…) situation that leaves about 15 people, that is the estimate, buried under this avalanche," said the coordinator of Risk Management of Santander, Ramón Ramírez, in a video broadcast by the departmental government in social networks.
Of those 15 people at least six were already rescued without life, according to RCN Radio, the risk management coordinator of Barrancabermeja, René Dávila, confirmed to RCN Radio.
Given this situation, the Governor of Santander, Didier Tavera, is heading to Barrancabermeja, while the relief agencies are still conducting search and rescue activities.
On October 11, another landslide generated by a heavy downpour in the municipality of Marquetalia, in the department of Caldas (center), left 12 dead.
