At least 20 dead and 25 injured in a bombing in a Pakistani bazaar

At least 20 people were killed and another 25 were injured in a bombing in a bazaar in the tribal belt of northwestern Pakistan, in the second attack of the day in the Asian country, after an assault on the Chinese consulate in southern Karachi that It caused six deaths.

In the explosion in the Kalaya bazaar "20 people died and another 25 were wounded," the spokesman for the administration of the area, Mohamed Bilal, told Efe.

The source indicated that the bazaar was crowded with people when the explosion occurred around 10.00 local time (5.00 GMT) in the tribal agency of Orakzai.

"It was a terrorist attack, but it is not clear whether it was an improvised explosive device (IED) or a suicide bomber," he said.

It is the second attack of the day after the assault of three armed men against the Chinese consulate in the city of Karachi, economic center of Pakistan and located in the south of the country.

That attack began early in the morning when the attackers began firing and throwing grenades and six people were killed.

Pakistan launched a military operation in the tribal areas of the northwest of the country in 2014 in which 3,500 suspected terrorists have died, according to the Army, which was added in 2017 new antiterrorist operations in other parts of its territory.

Military operations have helped reduce terrorism in Pakistan substantially.
