Asturias closes “all non-essential economic activity” from Wednesday and asks Health to authorize a home confinement of 15 days

Asturias has agreed to close “all non-essential economic activity” as of Wednesday, establish a curfew at ten at night, two hours before the current one, and ask the Ministry of Health to authorize a home confinement for 15 days to treat to contain the expansion of the coronavirus in the region, which has already seen more than 400 infections per 100,000 inhabitants and how its hospitals and intensive care units broke occupancy records.

The decision was announced today by the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, after urgently meeting the covid-19 crisis committee and after yesterday the autonomous community passed to alert level four (extreme risk) for the sharp increase in healthcare pressure in recent days and in infections, which have exceeded 3,000 in the last eight days of October.

According to the Asturian Government, these measures are aimed at “intensifying the decrease in mobility and personal interaction” at a “critical” moment in which healthcare pressure has skyrocketed and the positivity index remains between 6 and close to 10 percent, above the 5 percent that the WHO sets as the threshold to consider the pandemic controlled.
