Arrested a marriage for torturing her 13-year-old maid in Morocco

A couple of Moroccans have been arrested in Casablanca (Morocco) after a complaint of torture and mistreatment of the maid who works with them as a domestic worker and who is only 13 years old, according to the police in a statement.

In addition, the Office of the Prosecutor (prosecutor) has opened another investigation to the husband for allegedly have threatened the family of the child to force them to withdraw the complaint interposed against them.

A forensic doctor has already examined the girl and has found evidence that it was victim of violence and torture, so the Attorney General has ordered an in-depth investigation.

The case of this tortured girl has also splashed a police officer, who was on duty when the parents of the girl presented themselves to denounce the facts and committed "professional procedural faults".

If the Prosecutor's Office formalizes its charges and the accused go to trial, it will be the first time in Morocco that employers are judged for mistreating and torturing a domestic employee, although there was a case-by-case trial in which a maid ended up dead.

The work of girls in domestic service is in theory illegal since last October a law was passed prohibiting it for those under 16Although the organizations defending children have warned that there are no monitoring mechanisms, it does not allow visits to the homes of labor inspectors without a court order.

The law itself took several years to be approved, given the social and political tolerance for a long time to the phenomenon of "girls raised", which has declined in recent years.
