Argentina, undoubtedly one of the best exponents of Ibero-American cinema, will send Ibértigo to Milagros Mumenthaler, to present Ibiguigo's first full retrospective of his work in Spain. That retrospective includes his first works in the short film and that began to attract the attention of such important festivals as BAFICI, Locarno or Lisbon. Also, you can see his feature films, Open doors and windows and The idea of a lake, both premiered at the prestigious Locarno Festival, where Mumenthaler has been established as one of the most stimulating names of the latest batch of Argentine filmmakers.
Ibértigo, always attentive to cinema in Portuguese, will dedicate its closing to one of the filmmakers that generates more enthusiasm among international critics, the Portuguese Joao Pedro Rodrigues, who will present his latest work, Où en êtes-vous, João Pedro Rodrigues?, a short film made for the Center Pompidou, as well as his last two feature films, The last time I saw Macao and The ornithologist, awarded in Locarno or Torino, among other festivals.
As in each edition, Spanish cinema will take center stage at the Equator of the Festival. On this occasion we will have the presence of David Rodríguez Camps, who will attend Ibértigo with his second feature film, Sotobosque, after having presented him at festivals as renowned as the European Film Festival in Seville or the D'A Film Festival in Barcelona.
Ibértigo, maintaining his usual attention towards the new names of the Canarian cinema, this year will be attended by Laura Toledo Carballo. This filmmaker from Gran Canaria, formed in the prestigious ECAM, will attend Ibértigo to present the premiere in the Canary Islands of her short Replicante, after her time at the Roselle Park Short Film Festival (USA), the Kinofest Digital Film Festival (Romania) or the Platform of New Directors (Spain).
With the idea that the Show generates synergies between the Canarian audiovisual sector and the filmmakers who attend as guests, Ibértigo, in collaboration with the Association of filmmakers of the Canary Islands Microclima, will organize meeting points between local filmmakers and guests, in what constitutes a of the great novelties of this edition of Ibértigo.
One of the most emblematic buildings of the historic center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Casa de Colón, will host the bulk of Ibértigo's projections. This year's program includes 22 works from 11 countries, of which 11 are feature films and 11 short films.
