The 38th edition of ARC, the contemporary art fair who has a Peru as a guest country, this year is presented as "consolidated reference of Latin America in Europe" and with "positive" forecasts and "total optimism".
This is what he explained on Monday Carlos Urroz, who is dismissed this year from the direction of ARCO, during the presentation of the Fair in the House of America, and who has defined this edition, which will open its doors on the 27th and until March 3, for its "high quality, diversity, sustainability and its sexy character ".
Carlos Urroz, who says goodbye this year to the management, defines ARCO as a fair as "high quality, diversity, sustainability and its sexy character"
"We have searched for content that is not in other fairs; in 40 percent of the stands there are one or two artists, something unique and that makes it different from other fairs. There is a diversity and improvement of content, and the link with Latin America has been fully consolidated, "said Urroz, who has directed this edition of 2019 with Maribel López, the person who will replace him in March at the direction of ARCO.
ARCO, in addition to putting Madrid as "the capital of contemporary world art", is a business and collectors' fair, as Eduardo López-Puerta, CEO of Ifema, also explained today, who said that they expect "to exceed 140 million euros and receive 100,000 visitors."

In total, in this edition of ARCO, which will be held in pavilions 7 and 8 of Ifema, 203 galleries will participate, of which 166 will be part of the General Program, to which are added the curated sections: Peru in ARCO, with a selection of 23 artists in 15 galleries, in addition to the "Dialogues" sections, with 13 galleries, and "Opening", with 21.
In this edition about 40 percent of the galleries present projects of individual artists or in dialogue on their stand. In addition to presenting 38 projects of artists for different spaces, which are the most special projects.
The invitation of Peru as a guest country consolidates the presence of Latin America, which will be one of the main international representations in the Fair. Thus, of the 70 percent that reaches the international representation of ARCO at the fair, 29 percent is hoarded by the American continent with 40 galleries from 12 countries in the region.

A fair that also expands throughout the city, as recalled Urroz, hence its qualification of "inclusive", with exhibitions in Madrid, as well as travel to Pamplona and Valencia. Peru has made a great effort to be in this edition, as recognized by the ambassador of that country in Spain, Claudio de La Puente Ribeyro, who has underlined the work of Shron Lerner as curator and selection of Peruvian artists at the fair.
In the official section will participate seven galleries: 8oM2 Livia Benavides, Del Paseo, Forum, Ginsberg. Impakto, Revolver and Wu. To which will be added European galleries that work with Peruvian artists. A Peruvian presence in which the architecture of its pavilion will have a special importance.
In the parallel program of Peru at ARCO, curated by Fietta Jarque, there will be 16 exhibitions around the city, among which the exhibition on the Nasca culture, developed 200 BC and 650 AD, in southern Peru, a civilization that dazzled to the world for its ceramics and fabrics, in the Telefónica Foundation.

And the exhibitions "Amazonia", about the art that is made in that territory without borders, in Matadero; or "Portraits of a landscape", which summarizes the splendor that Peruvian photography had at the beginning of the 20th century, at Casa de América.
It will also show a jewel of Cusco painting that will be exhibited in the Prado Museum, an 18th century painting that represents the alliance between the Inca power and the Jesuits. A fair in which there will be a large presence of young artists and that women will have a joint presence or even higher in consolidated sections such as "Opening" or "Dialogues".
"We have looked for an egalitarian work in these sections but in the galleries we do not control it, we do not intervene, so we do not know what the participation of women artists will be like. We, in any case, are looking for people, "said Maribel López. A "sexy" ARCO, as Urroz has defined the fair, because people like to come to see all kinds of contents.
