ArcelorMittal will apply a seven-day ERTE to 1,624 workers in Spain

AvilésUpdated:

ArcelorMittal today announced the application of a Temporary Employment Regulation File (ERTE) Seven days to 1,624 workers before the "economic uncertainty" caused by several conditions, as reported to Efe sources of the multinational.

The ERTE will be applied on January 18 and 25, February 1 and 15 and March 1, 15 and 29 in the plants of Asturias, Etxebarri (Vizcaya), Lesaka (Navarra) and Sagunto (Valencia).

The causes, according to the same sources, are the high level of imports into the EU, like the substantial increase of steel coming from Turkey, and the decrease of demand of the automobile sector.

It has also weighed on ArcelorMittal's decision the economic uncertainty derived from the Brexit, the commercial war and the Italy budgets, as well as the increase in costs linked to CO2 emission rights.
