Manzana will replace the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro computers affected by a problem in the battery that prevents it from charging more than 1%, which has been accompanied by a macOS update to avoid this failure on other computers.
Some users with a 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro computer have found that when trying to charge their computers, the battery was not more than 1%, a percentage that was accompanied by the indication ‘Recommended repair’, as shown on its Support page.
Apple notes that the ruling affects a “very small number of clients”, but for them he has started a free replacement program, targeting MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, two Thunderbolt 3 ports), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, two Thunderbolt 3 ports), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, four Thunderbolt 3 ports), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, four Thunderbolt 3 ports), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016), and MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017), which may be affected.
The company has also released a macOS update to avoid this problem in others computers. And it recommends updating to macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 or later, or installing the macOS Catalina 10.15.7 companion update.
To check the status of the battery, from macOS Big Sur you can go to the system preferences, the ‘Battery’ section of the sidebar, where users can find ‘Battery health’. In the case of macOS Catalina or other earlier versions, the status menu is displayed by clicking the battery icon in the menu bar.
