The Pérez Galdós Theater, given the great acceptance that this show had in its premiere last year, has decided to replace Another love story, a production of its own in which the Dance Company Natalia Medina and the Municipal Symphonic Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria they share a leading role in telling, through dance and music, the story of a group of young people in an urban environment. Their problems, their feelings and the way of understanding love and friendship are the central axes of this work with music from Leonard Bernstein and Germán G. Arias, interpreted by the band of the capital city council.
This work, is part of the Educational project of the Pérez Galdós Theater with which brings culture and different artistic manifestations to young people Therefore, on January 30 and 31, and February 1, there will be functions for schoolchildren in schools and colleges in Gran Canaria for more than 12 years. The function for the general public will take place on February 1 at 8:00 p.m.
Another love story emerged in 2018 on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of the renowned American composer, pianist and conductor Leonard Bernstein. At that time, and given the demand of the public, the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria already showed interest in this work reaching as many viewers as possible.
Another love story is starring dancers and dancers of Natalia Medina Dance Company, which will give life to the characters in the story, young people who live unequal experiences in the urban environment in which it develops, that interact, fall in love and hate each other. The entire body of dance selected for this function, takes a step towards their professionalization with this type of actions in which you can show your talent.
The live music, performed by the Municipal Symphonic Band of Music of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is one of the attractions of this function. The story of Another love story It is built from the union of a selection of pieces from different works by Leonard Bernstein, to which are added five original pieces composed for this montage by Germán G. Arias that, by way of transitions, provide a change of sonority and color to the work. Some of Bernstein's works that will sound in this show are Slava !, a concert Overture, 3 episodes of On the Town, The wrong note rag of Wonderful Town, among others.
For the staging he has had Natalia Medina in the artistic direction; Óscar Navarro, as musical director; Vanessa Medina, as a choreographer; Quino Falero in the dramaturgy; Txema Fernández in the lighting; and with the costumes of Claudio Martín.

Natalia Medina she trained as a dancer in cities like London, Paris, New York and Madrid and in 1997 he won the third prize in the Choreographic Competition of Madrid. In 1996 he created his own Space of Formation, Creation and Artistic Exhibition, dedicated to the arts of movement, a space that currently has a line of scholarships for the artistic development of young people without economic resources and offers training in different artistic disciplines to the general public.
In 2000 he created the Natalia Medina Compañía de Danza with the aim of creating new proposals within contemporary dance, evolving towards the experimentation of new languages of movement. The company has created and presented numerous shows throughout its history, both nationally and internationally, as well as The Fifth Woman, White Discharge or Neither with you nor without you, among others.
The members of the dance company that participate in this project are Violeta Aguilera, Ádex Afonso, Daniela Arzarello, Marta Batista, Sara Cárdenes, Ángel Garcés, Juan León, Patricia Magaña, Marta Medina, Ángeles Perea, Sergio Pérez and Alba Rodríguez.
With this installation, Natalia Medina returns to the Teatro Pérez Galdós that saw in 2018 how the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria recognized her as Adopted daughter, coinciding with the premiere of Another love story.
The choreographer of the show is Vanessa Medina, which has a long history as part of the companies of important Spanish choreographers such as Teresa Nieto, Chevi Muraday, Monica Runde, Pedro Berdäyes and José Jiménez Reches, as well as Cirque du Soleil and, since 2013, she is artistic director, choreographer, dancer and performer of Natalia Medina Compañía de Danza.
The musical fragments that accompany Bernstein's music within the show Another love story they are in charge of Germán García Arias, artistic director of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He is composer of numerous works for musicals and shows, among which the musical ones for Clapso stand out, Sorry, Bonita, The tongue of the Dragon, Sleeping Beauty, The Mousetrap or The little Prince, among many. He is also responsible for soundtracks for films, documentaries, television series, plays, as Phenomena, Always Alice or Before your eyes. He is founder and main composer of the Artenara group with which he was a finalist for the music awards.
The director of the show, Óscar Navarro, he specialized in clarinet at the Óscar Esplá Conservatory of Alicante and later studied Composition and Direction in the Allegro International Music Academy From Valencia. Navarro was selected by the University of Southern California to specialize in Film and TV Composition and has made recordings for studios such as Capitol Records, Paramount Pictures or Warner Bros.
The other essential element of Another love story is the music of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a formation that was recognized with the Gold Medal of the City and the Local Police. This formation was constituted in the year 1888, becoming a musical reference throughout its history. Antonio Machado Viglietti He assumed his direction from its creation until he died in 1910.
The centennial musical group has a stable program throughout the year, where it participates in each of the institutional events in which it is required as well as in events such as Temudas Fest, The Midwest Clinic and International Band Conference of Chicago or the Canary Islands Music Festival.
