An indigenous leader reproaches Almeida who prefers to save Notre Dame to the Amazon

“The Amazon is more important than a church. Children and young people have to breathe in the future, ”says the representative of the Indian Movement of America Mario Agreda

A representative of Indian Movement of America Mario Agreda has reproached the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, to ensure that he preferred to save the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, rather than the Amazon.

Within the framework of the climate summit (COP25), which takes place in Madrid, and in the context of an act attended by the Madrid councilor, the indigenous leader has approached Almeida. “The Amazon is more important than a church. I tell you from the heart", said Agreda, who added that “Children and young people” have to breathe in the future.

The indigenous leader has thus referred to statements made by Almeida in a program of Telemadrid where asked by a minor about whether he would donate money before to restore Notre Dame or to save the Amazon, the mayor opted for the cathedral because, he said, "it is the symbol of Europe and we are in Europe."

The indigenous leader has told Almeida that his comment should not be taken as "something bad." “The Latin American project makes you a constructive criticism”, he pointed out. Finally, both have exchanged comments and they have given each other a hug. EFE
