Among the rights to property and housing, the Balearic Government defends with the law the expropriation of real estate

With the debate on the regulation of rents and the negotiations on the Housing Law at its peak, the Balearic Islands have joined the controversy to put on the table a measure that has unleashed a political storm inside and outside the islands: the temporary expropriation - for a maximum of seven years - of 56 homes belonging to large owners with the aim of allocating them to social rent. While some applaud the initiative, others see in it a clear violation of the right to private property. "Either you are with the people or with the speculators," proclaimed the Balearic president, Francina Armengol, in response to the criticism launched by the national leader of the PP, Pablo Casado.
