Almudena Grandes and Yolanda Arencibia open the 32nd Capital Book Fair – La Provincia


The writer and national prize for Narrative, Almudena Grandes, and the emeritus professor and professor for the ULPGC, Yolanda Arencibia, will open the 32nd Book Fair of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which will be held between October 7 and 12, 2020.

Specifically, Arencibia will do so by presenting his latest work, Galdós, a biography, winner of the XXXII edition of the prestigious Comillas award. The professor will be accompanied by Almudena Grandes and the writer Carmen Márquez, who will speak at a round table about the figure and work of the great Canarian writer, Benito Pérez Galdós, since this year 2020 is celebrating the centenary of his death.

After the tribute to Galdós, a figure that also stars in the official poster of this edition of the fair, Grandes will present his latest work Frankenstein’s mother, fifth installment of Episodes of an endless war.

In this edition, as in the previous ones, there will also be an exhibition of booksellers and publishers from the Canary Islands, in which the latest news from the publishing sector will be offered.

In this regard, the Association of Booksellers Merchants (ACOLI) of Las Palmas, together with the entity in charge of managing the LPGC Book Fair, Jab Iniciativas Culturales, have opened the registration period so that publishers and bookstores that want to participate can do what. The term ends on September 10. To do this, they must communicate it through the mail ferialpgc2020@librotequiero.es.

In this sense, both the president of ACOLI, Carlos Villaplana, and the vice president of the association, Carolina Sánchez, invite the publishing sector to join in on this special edition, since “it is time to join forces, and promote and promote the publishing sector “.

On the other hand, more than 100 authors will also participate in this 32nd Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Book Fair, of which 42 writers will present their literary novelties in the general literature space, located in the Cine Max room of the Elder Museum.

All this has been planned following the anticovid health measures, so the face-to-face capacity will be 70 people. People who wish to attend the presentations and interact with the invited writers may do so by acquiring the invitations on the website, starting in September.

In addition, all the presentations of the authors of general literature will be broadcast by streaming, to facilitate access to the public not only on the island, but from the rest of the world.

The youth literature space, which will also be located in the Elder Museum, will feature the presentation of 30 authors, among which youtubers, singers, instagramers, and illustrators, who have entered the literary world, stand out. In this case, the expected capacity to enjoy these presentations is 100 seats.

Storytelling

Continuing with the great success that the children’s session had in the last edition thanks to the storytellers, puppets, and the presentations of the main writers of children’s literature, this year we will have the presence of 29 authors, thus doubling the number of national storytellers in first renown. The most important literary meeting in the Canary Islands in this 32nd edition will feature nine international authors from Europe, Africa and America. As well as, with the assistance of 64 writers from the Peninsula and 81 Canarian authors, who will present their works in two spaces, the one dedicated to general literature (Elder museum) and the continuous session (Parque Santa Catalina).
