The Catalan Aprilia rider will start ahead of the Italian Bagnaia and the Frenchman Quartararo

The Catalan Aleix Espagaró (Aprilia) will start this Sunday from the first position of the grid in the MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalonia, the ninth round of the World Championship, after achieving his second pole position of the season on Saturday.

In the classification, Espagaró, second in the World Championship, was faster than the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and the French general leader Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), who complete the first starting line. Currently, only eight points separate the Frenchman from the Spaniard in the World Championship classification of the premier category of motorcycling.

With temperatures above 30 degrees in the air and 55 degrees on the track, "the conditions were super difficult," Espargaró acknowledged. To achieve pole position, "I did a completely crazy lap, going to the limit in every corner," acknowledged the Spaniard after having set a new circuit record, beating the one he had set himself shortly before in the morning.

The second row of the grid, one hundred percent Ducati, will be occupied by the Frenchman Johann Zarco, ahead of the Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio and the other Ducati Pramac rider, the Spanish Jorge Martín. The Italian Enea Bastianini, third in the World Cup, did not have his best day and will start from 14th place on Sunday. The Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (KTM), who won this circuit last year, will start from sixteenth.

Marc's brother, Álex Márquez, was unable to compete in the qualifying rounds after suffering a heavy crash early in the afternoon in the fourth free practice session. He was evacuated to the medical center and it is still unknown if he will compete on Sunday in Montmeló.
