Airbus has announced this Thursday the dismissal of 283 workers from the Illescas (Toledo) plant, 455 dismissals in Getafe (Madrid) and 151 in Puerto Real (Cadiz), in the civil and defense and space aircraft divisions, as reported UGT in a statement.
The union has rejected these dismissals at Airbus, and has advocated negotiating with management and reaching agreements to guarantee the maintenance of Spanish plants with temporary measures and solutions and reinstating employees that management has left out.
The head of the UGT union section at Airbus Ilescas, Miguel Ángel Regidor, has assured that “the company had previously programmed the adjustments and that it is now taking advantage of the crisis caused by the pandemic to apply them.”
The general secretary of the UGT Federation of Construction and Agro Industry (FICA) Castilla-La Mancha, Carlos Duque, has also warned that, after the number of layoffs of workshop personnel and office personnel, may be the intention of the company to “dismantle the industrial character of the three Spanish factories” in which the layoffs are foreseen.
“We cannot allow the dismantling of the workforce and the loss of an industry of this magnitude in Spain. As we did last week, we again ask the Government of Spain and the Ministry of Employment for maximum involvement to stop these forecasts and negotiate with the company, “he maintained.
For this reason, UGT FICA will meet this Friday to decide on an imminent mobilization schedule in order to demand that the company and the Government of Spain maintain the employment and viability of the entire supply chain and the aerospace sector in the country.
