The Balearic Association of Travel Agencies of the Balearic Islands (Aviba) has proposed to the Government that when it lifts the travel restrictions, it should extend to all Spaniards visiting the archipelago the 75% discount on airline tickets for links to the peninsula that have the residents on the islands.
The employers’ organization, which foresees that air and maritime transport will continue to be limited until the third quarter of this year, proposes this measure as an incentive to reactivate the Balearic tourism sector and the whole of Spain.
“The State has an item in the General State Budgets that in 2019 amounted to 625 million Euros. As air and maritime traffic is suspended, this item is frozen, it is not being used, so from Aviba we think that it would be very positive to boost our economic engine if this discount were extended to all Spanish citizens who wanted to travel to extra-peninsular territories ” , explains in a statement the president of the business association, Xisco Mulet.
He assures that together with agencies associations from Castilla y León, Galicia, Valencian Community and Aragon, integrated in the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV), Aviba is working on a project of “tourist exchange between the autonomous communities”.
It also proposes that the funds provided for the Imserso trips that have been suspended be used to subsidize trips to the islands.
